Artist OceansAlike, Grace Chavez (she/they)

Was born and raised on the Navajo Nation, she left for college in 2021, with a passion for mental health and set aside a special place in their heart for animals and art. But she spent every summer growing up in Reno, NV, where her grandparents fostered a love for creativity—that couldn’t be let go.

As an Indigenous/Latinx, Queer Identifying Artist, Grace explores themes of self-awareness, balance, and decolonization, to challenge stereotypical existing beliefs and perceptions held surronding Native Modernity.

By centering expressions of minority-spirituality, culture, and gender, through an Art process that is reiterative, storytelling, and reframing—Grace investigates presence and belonging, helping to find ways Creativty can be used to ground our souls to the Earth.
